Programme Structure
- Candidates admitted to the PGDE Course will take their courses in the School of Education, covering all the under listed professional areas of Education.

- Educational Psychology
- Educational Administration, Planning and Curriculum Development
- Educational Communication and Technology
- Each candidate shall take a subject methods course in the subjects offered by the candidate as teaching subjects preparing him/her to teach in two school curriculum subjects such as:

- Biological Sciences/biology Geography
- Religious Education Physics/Physical Sciences
- Economics/Commerce Chemistry

Objectives
Objectives of the Programme
The Postgraduate Diploma in Education course is a one year professional training in Education which aims at turning a general graduate into a professional teacher in the various disciplines of professional education. At the successful completion of the course, the graduate will have been provided with skills to enable him/her to:
- Teach competently at school or other learning institutions.
- Prepare and develop teaching plans, schemes of work, notes, teaching aids and be able to use such other resources and facilities that will promote learning as well as contribute to the planning, development and implementation of school curriculum.
- Organize appropriate opportunities and environment for the promotion of the teaching/learning process.
- Diagnose individual students learning strengths, difficulties and problems of social adjustment and be able to give counselling on a remedial level
- Acquire skills for effective management.
Admission Requirements
- Applicants should be holders of a relevant first degree from accredited universities.
- Applicants wishing to be registered by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) should be holders of Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degrees from accredited universities;
- Applicants wishing to be registered by TSC should have obtained a C+ and above at KCSE in two teaching subjects and must have done a minimum of 16 subject content courses at undergraduate in each of the teaching subjects.
- Applicants teaching or aspiring to teach at universities or TVET with a first degree are admissible.
- Any other applicants wishing to acquire instructional skills and have a first degree from accredited universities are admissible
Who can Apply
- Applicants with a first degree and teaching or aspiring to teach at the 8-4-4 secondary school or at Junior and Senior secondary school and other related systems for secondary school.
- Applicants with a first degree and teaching or aspiring to teach at TVET.
- Applicants with a first degree and teaching or aspiring to teach at universities and colleges.
- Any other applicants wishing to acquire instructional skills and have a first degree from accredited universities
